Special attention is given to the contributions of individual servicemen and the roles they played in major conflicts in which Pennsylvania patriots were involved. Displays of vehicles, firearms, uniforms, and photographs trace American military history over more than two centuries. A highlight is the museum's walk-through trench-warfare exhibit, which re-creates the sights and sounds of a World War I French battlefield.
Shrines, monuments, and plaques dot the museum's sixty-six acre park grounds, memorializing individual units and companies that have represented Pennsylvania in America's struggles.
Each Memorial Day weekend, the park hosts hundreds of veterans who come to pay their respects to fallen comrades and take part in military encampments and marching drills. Billed as the Birthplace of Memorial Day, Boalsburg first decorated its soldier's graves in 1864, five years prior to the establishment of the official U.S. holiday.
